Legal Malpractice is the failure of a lawyer to render competent professional service to a client. If the client is damaged as a result of the failure, he or she may have a claim against the lawyer for legal malpractice.

A lawsuit requires proof that the attorney committed negligence and entitles the successful plaintiff to money damages. Just because you received a "bad" result from your former lawyer does not mean that the attorney was negligent. There are many types of legal malpractice such as missing the statute of limitations; incorrect title searches in real estate transactions; conflicts of interest; substandard performance causing economic harm; and charging excessive fees, to name a few.

Should I hire a lawyer?

Proof of legal malpractice or negligence requires proof that an attorney failed in his or her duty of care to a client. They are usually highly contested and strongly defended cases.
